Dear future guests
We finally set the timeline for booking: the booking system will be online starting from end of february, the apartment will be available from June 2023. We are very excited to welcome you into our home in Schwanden. Below we'd like to give you a little sneak peak into the apartment. See you soon! Happy new year and we are almost there... The holiday apartment is getting its final shape while we are still trying to finish the outside asap. Our yard is getting an update with a beautiful rough stone wall which will hopefully be finished by early spring. As soon as the cold winter days are over we will start to build the terrace in front of the apartment. The inside will be finished by end of March latest. Stay tuned for the final release of Chalet 118! We are looking forward to hosting you.
Time was running fast within the last months. Without even realizing it was already February and lots of things did happen in the meantime.
Until late October we continued improving the basic construction of the house adding walls and roof layers. By November our roof was completed with rooftiles and the bracket for our solar panels (which will hopefully be connected to our heating next week). We then started working on the outside of the house so that the scaffolding could be removed. Since we´ve been doing all the artistical details of the house on our own we had a quite intense and timeconsuming period without even visibly proceeding much. We carved, grinded and painted all details several times, so that the wood will not darken but stay as beautiful looking freshly cut as you can see it. In February the scaffolding was finally removed so that we can now focus on the inside (floors, walls, electrical installation, ...). Our next main steps will be: construction of floor layers, building the holiday apartments terrace, sanitary and electircal installations on the upper level. We hope to be able to "move in" by May or June so that we can then fully focus on finishing the holiday apartment. The last two and a half weeks might have been the most exhausting still rewarding weeks of our lives. We spent hours every day on the construction site, the team worked very hard and very well. The first contact with the helicopter was different, but everyone adapted quite well and the erection proceeded fast. The rooftop is now sealed and ready for the upcoming "Föhnsturm" and the following rainy days. We are unbelievably happy and tired, and are looking forward to the next steps...
Our clocks are ticking faster than usually. By the end of this week the old part of the house is supposed to be gone. The new house is planned to be erected on next Monday, the 20th September. We can't tell how excited we are, but still reflective about the past of the house hosting generations of families. To honour the history of the house we recently decided to include a display cabinet in the new house "exhibiting" original pieces like the old typewriter we found.
Within the next two days we are focussing on the demo of the remaining pipes and cables. Starting from Wednesday the final roof and construction demo will start. Keep your fingers crossed for better weather. Welcome to our construction blog. Since our wedding in the begining of July we have been working on the demo of the older part of our house. This part has been where my father in law was born and grew up. Since the building fabric is not stable anymore, we have to do major renovation and rebuilts for the house. For the last 2 months we removed layer over layer of old wall claddings, construction wood, floorings, even bathrooms and the old kitchen. We have 9 days left to reduce the construction of the house to its absolute minimum, before it gets teared down completely. Within the next weeks and months we will keep you updated with recent pics of our construction journey, but also show you some older pictures of the house during the demo. The picture below shows the house during the last winter. Thanks for joining us on our journey and be our guests soon!
